How to Be a Basketball Shooting Star

Rick Brunting asked:

In this article today I’d like to discuss several tips, tricks, and tactics that anybody can use to become a basketball shooting star, no matter what.

In my opinion basketball is the greatest game that was ever invented on this planet. Apart from seeing somebody slam down a massive dunk in somebody’s face, one of the most exciting parts of the game is when somebody nails a long three point shot, especially with time running down.

What does it take to become a star three point shooter? It’s not as hard as you may think it just takes a massive amount of practice using these specific tactics that I’m going to share with you in this article today.

Being a shooter basically breaks down into two key areas and one of them is more important than the other.

The first area to focus on is upper body strength. In order to hoist a long shot you have to have the muscle strength throughout your upper body to do it, especially in a game when you’re tired. Of course, as an athlete you will probably be engaged in some sort of weight training anyway so this area is not as important as the next area I’m going to talk about, which is practice.

There’s only one way to become a great shooter in basketball and that is with practice. Hours and hours and hours of practice every single day. They say the greatest shooters in the NBA practice eight hours a day on their shot in the off-season and as many hours as possible during the season. The best shooters always come in several hours before a game starts to get warmed up.

Of course, you probably have school and other obligations so you can’t practice reasonably for eight hours a day but you can get four hours in quite easily and here is the practice routine that I used to become a great shooter.

For this routine we will use five positions on the floor. At the head of the key, the two elbows, and the to far corners. Began each of these positions behind the three-point line and take two large steps towards the basket. From this position make five baskets in a row at each of the five spots, then take a step back and make five baskets in a row from that spot and finally take another step back until you are behind the three-point line and make five baskets in a row from each of those five spots.

Don’t move on to the next spot until you’ve made five in a row. After several months of doing this routine every day, up it to 10 baskets made in a row. This routine should take between 3 to 4 hours a day to complete and after a year or two of doing it, you should be one of the best shooters in the history of your high school.

So there you have a very simple practice routine that is guaranteed to make you into an All-Star shooter. It just takes time and discipline but if you can stick to it, it will be well worth it to hear the crowd cheer as you sink three-pointer after three-pointer after three-pointer.
